Chore Charts
Chore Charts for Kids
A “Chore List“ is a list of chores that a person is expected to perform in order to take part in the house work. A “Chore Chart” is a chart that is used to track the chores that have been performed.
There are many different methods to organize and implement the chore system. The goal is to ensure that all household members take part in the household chores – each according to their age and ability. Chore charts record the chores that need to be performed and help track them once they are done. There is a huge selection of free printable chore charts on this site. Feel free to print them and use them to help your children get their chores done in a fun and exciting manner. You will also find a variety of family chore charts which can be used by the entire family in order to get all chores done together. We also offer chore charts for kids including chore charts for young kids who cannot yet read. For those of you with large families you can find Chore Charts for Multiple Children.
Giving children chores not only helps get the household work done but also helps prepare children for their independent lives. It teaches them responsibility, commitment and basic tasks that they will need to perform in the future when they live on their own.
Bad habits are very hard to break. If a child is allowed to throw his clothes on the floor and can expect his parents to pick them up for him this will become a bad habit that is hard to break. Now if this happens for say 20 years how is he going to feel when he moves out of his parents home and has nobody to pick up his clothes after him. The same goes for dirty dishes. If a child is used to leaving his dirty dishes in the sink – or even worse on the table – for 18 to 20 years – it isn’t going to be easy to break that habit either. No picture this same boy who was never expected to take part in these household chores when he leaves home. He is now facing the day to day challenges that people face when they leave home and in addition he also has to suddenly take care of his own basic needs. That can be quite overwhelming! By getting him to do chores over the years we can help him later on in life. Chores not only help children acquire basic skills but teach them responsibility, team work, and how to be a productive part of society.
It is important to adapt the chores to the age of the child and only ask them to perform age appropriate chores. Asking a child to do something that she is not capable of doing will only cause frustration. You can find a list of age appropriate chores on “Chore Charts for Kids” although you know your child better than anyone else and you will obviously need to adapt the list chores to your child and not your child to the list of chores.
